CCDF-14 Regulation
ELIGIBILITY
- AIM: Documentary projects that tackle Chinese culture and society
- THEME: Topic/subject pertaining to Chinese culture or society with strong international appeal
- PRODUCTION STAGE: Projects can be documentary shorts, documentary features, documentary series and immersive documentaries. Production status can be in development, in production or post-production. Projects that have been screened publicly will not be accepted.
- AGE & NATIONALITY: Applicant must be at least 18 years old; preference given to documentary filmmakers of Chinese descent.
- ATTENDANCE: Applicant must be in key creative role, i.e. producer or director; selected applicants are required to attend the entire CNEX Chinese Doc Forum including Training Workshop and Pitching Forum. If unable to attend, project will be disqualified.
- English is the main language used at the Forum. Chinese-English simultaneous translation will be provided during all pitching sessions; strong command of English is preferred.
- Either director and/or producer can represent the project at the Forum(maximum 2 reps)Each project will have 15 minutes to pitch, including 7 min for introducing, and 8 min for Q&A.
- All CCDF selected films are required to include CCDF logo in end credits.

Please feel free to include any information that you deem important for your project. Below is the suggested outline:- Motivation
– Target audience
– Logline (150 words limited )
– Synopsis ( 450 words limited )
– Treatment ( 1500 words limited )
– Production schedule
– Budget
– Crew or key production roles (400 words per role)
– Additional materials, ex. research report, archive, etc.
2) The trailer should be 3 – 5 minute long. Please upload the footage to Vimeo, Google Drive, Baidu or any other online space available to you.
*Please set the trailer as downloadable and provide download password upon registration.
*Trailers are just for evaluation purpose, they will not be accessible to the general public.
TIMELINE
- Call for Entries: Open From April to May 15, 2023
- Finalist Announcement: Mid-June, 2023
- Training Workshop: July to September, 2023
- Pitching Forum: September 20 to 26, 2023
SELECTION AND AWARDS
- 20 Finalists(up to): Participants will attend the Training Workshop and Pitching Forum and receive valuable feedback and the opportunity to work with international producers. Organizer may subsidize participants’ travel and accommodations expenses, as well as assist in obtaining visas. Details of subsidies will be discussed separately with participants at later date.
- Training Workshop: Selected projects can be automatically entered to participate in CCDF training workshop which will take place in July to September. Participants can meetings with professional lecturers to enhance pitching and storytelling skills.
- Awards: The awards with cash prize include “Best Pitch",”Project with Most International Potential”. In addition, prizes provide by other international pitching forum include “SSD Award,” “Tokyo Docs Award”, “Sheffield Film Festival Award,” “AIDC Award,” “Doc Edge Award,” “Fresh Pitch Award” …etc “ which may recommend projects directly into international documentary markets.

*Do you have a film project that will have impact society for good?
*Does it address a social problem? Will it help a disadvantaged group?
*Does it contribute to social justice, address inequality or discrimination?
*Will it assist the aged, the mentally impaired, or the physically handicapped?
*Does it offer education or medical or environmental information to the community?
CNEX is seeking timely films of interest to Chinese-speaking audiences at rough-cut stage or later to compete for additional training, consultation, advice re completion funding and campaign assistance to maximize the impact of the film.
How will INVESTING FOR GOOD help?
The training offered from July to September will include editorial consultation, professional mentorship and social media campaign planning. Successful applicants will pitch to a group of specially selected investors, broadcasters, foundations and companies whose mandates include social benefits in September 2023.

- Awards:”Best Impact Potential Prize” is a cash prize which is taxable by law. Recipient must agree to jointly produce a 5-10 minute version with the organizer for use in subsequent impact related charity activities to raise awareness of the issues.
