The 16th CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum Concludes Successfully — Outstanding Performances from Taiwanese Projects.

The 16th edition of the CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum (CCDF) concluded successfully on September 28, marked by an inspiring three-day gathering that included pitching sessions, panels, and masterclasses. A total of 19 documentary projects competed for 20 awards, showcasing the creativity, diversity, and vigor of Chinese-language documentary filmmakers.

Taiwanese teams delivered exceptional results this year. Director FU Yi-chia and producer HUANG Linghua’s project Thunder and Rosy Clouds received the TCCF Award, sponsored by Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA). Director CHEN Chiao-wei, with producers Mocy TSAO and MA Huai-shuo, took home the Cash Award sponsored by Taigi TV for their project Wild Road.

Meanwhile, Tzusy—a film spotlighting Taiwanese queer ballet dancer CHOU Tzu-chao and his creative journey and touring life with a British dance company—earned director YANG Wei-hsin and producer Grace LIN the AIDC Award, presented by the Australian International Documentary Conference.

The Best Pitch Award, sponsored by CNEX with a total prize of USD $5,000, was granted to the Canadian project Johnny Tiger. The Best International Potential Award (also USD $5,000 and CNEX-sponsored) went to the Taiwanese project Back on North Face, which follows a daring cross-cultural adventure on the steep northern face of Mt. Jade East Peak (Yushan).

Mainland Chinese director ZHOU Hao emerged as this year’s biggest winner. His project All fixed Up (弄得好) swept five major awards, including:
AIDC Award (Australia)
Doc Edge Award (New Zealand)
Hot Docs Award (Canada)
Tokyo Docs Invitation (Japan)
And the top honor from Investing for Good: Best Potential on Impact making, with a prize of USD $7,000.
